FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth the effort and cost to reupholster?
Reupholstering furniture is a great, environmentally friendly way to keep old furniture out of landfills. However, it is not always the most inexpensive choice. The truth is that reupholstering furniture can often cost as much as replacing it (and sometimes more).
That said people tend to underestimate how emotion a revived furniture is providing. It’s a decision you will not regret.

How much does it cost to reupholster a chair?
This will obviously vary depending on the tasks ahead. Usually, reupholstering a chair can range from a couple of hundreds of Pounds to thousands. For the relatively simple job of reupholstering a dining room chair seat with only a cushion, the job can cost as little as £50. For the more complex job of reupholstering a large recliner with ornate details, it can ring in over £650. When providing a quote we will provide as many details as we can as to highlight all tasks and time to be allocated.

What is the best fabric to reupholster a chair?
There is not a best fabric as such. As it depends which use you’ll need it for. If you have children or pets, a smooth cotton fabric is best, as it can be washed when needed. Durable fabrics, such as corduroys or microfibre blends, will work especially well in a living room, unlike demanding fabrics such as velvet or chenilles.

How do you choose fabric for upholstery?
Choose a fabric based on who will be using your sofa. If your pets are sharing your sofa with you, consider a microfibre fabric or leather because these can withstand extra wear and tear. Fabric durability is important if your sofa or chair will get daily use.

Should I reupholster or buy new?
Reupholstery can be a great way to give furniture you love a new life. It tends to cost more than buying new, so it’s better for pieces that have special value. If you have an antique chair with a great frame, or a modern couch with a single torn cushion, reupholstery might be a wise decision.
