Cushions

As a gift, or just for yourself, bring life to your armchair, sofa or bed by adding a personal touch.

At Mr Upholstery all cushions are made to order. They can be made to go with a chair freshly refurbished, or they can be ordered separately. Just tell us the size you want and we will start from there.

5 tips when it comes to pick up the right cushions for you:

Trust your guts and remember that you can take risks.

1/ Think of the storytelling behind your choice

What do you want to tell? It can be to create a theme, to spice up a room, to bring more cosiness and so on. Then, reinforce a colour or a pattern you already have in the room.

2/ Think of the type of the room your cushions are for

If a room gets used frequently and you have young children or pets, choose cushions in fabrics which are more forgiving with stains – like textured weaves, or kilims. Cushions can also be used to set the tone of different rooms. Soft shades will enhance a sense of quiet and calm for a bedroom. Whilst plush, more glamorous cushions or those with feathered trims will create a more formal atmosphere and add a layer of smart luxury to a living room.

3/ Combine textures, colours and patterns

This is also part of the story telling. This will be the opportunity to tone up, or down, a theme you have across your room. This will enable you to create a mood for your room. Taking into account the room itself, this will help you to define the fabric you wan to use (e.g. silk, cotton, linen etc,.). This is an extension of you, and act as a way to enable you to reveal your personality. The new cushions will be a statement to your room. See them as a signature, almost.

4/ Create a (new) unique focal point

For a contemporary sofa style, create an eye-catching centre piece by interspersing subtle metallic cushions with plainer ones framed in a soft gold trim for instance. Or for a more relaxed sofa feel, combine linen or cotton cushions with faded patterns and neutral tones. They will be the details that will make the difference. Mixing different shapes and sizes is another way to catch the eye and draw focus to your sofa or bed.

5/ Play with details for extra individual flair

Enhance and make the design of your cushions your own with small details like contrast piping, feathers, braiding or fringing. To add a plush edge to a cushion, pipe a rustic linen or cotton fabric in a rich velvet or braided rope. Or for that extra luxurious feel, border your cushions in flamboyant feathers or add some metallic fringe.
